careerify vs ChatGPT for your CV, here is the difference
Before I started careerify I ran the same test you have probably already run. Took my CV. Took a job ad. Pasted both into ChatGPT with the prompt "tailor my CV to this ad". The result looks good. Too good. That is the problem.
This article shows exactly what I mean by "too good". Three concrete fabrications ChatGPT generated in my tests. Why that is not just uncomfortable but an actual risk in the interview. And where ChatGPT is enough (there are cases).
What ChatGPT does well
- The writing mechanics are excellent. Grammar, flow, varied sentence length. Drop in a weak CV bullet and you get back a sharper version. Genuinely useful.
- Brainstorming is effective. "What interview questions might come up for this role?" is a good ChatGPT prompt. You get a list quickly and can iterate.
- Free tier is generous. GPT-4 in ChatGPT Free goes a long way. For anyone with one or two applications a year, the zero price is a strong advantage.
Where ChatGPT goes wrong: fabrication
Here is the decisive problem. ChatGPT is a probability machine trained to produce text that "sounds plausible" in context. When the context is "tailor a CV", inventing a credible claim is a plausible completion. The model knows you want a match. It is trying to help.
Three examples from my own ChatGPT tests in January-April 2026 where I gave it my actual CV plus a real job ad.
Tailor my CV to this Senior Controller role that requires SAP S/4HANA experience.
Experience, Loopia AB, 2023, 2025. Led the SAP S/4HANA migration for an 800-person organisation, cut month-end close from 12 to 7 days.
My real job at Loopia did NOT involve SAP. It was a Hyperion EPM environment. ChatGPT made up the SAP implementation because the ad required SAP and my CV title sounded like someone who would have done it.
Adjust my experience for a CFO role looking for IFRS reporting experience.
Adealsweden AB, 2021, ongoing, Owns the IFRS reporting cycle, manages communication with external auditors, runs intercompany elimination per IFRS 10.
Adealsweden is a single entity. There is no IFRS consolidation. It is K3 only. ChatGPT assumed a sounds-like-a-group bullet was a group.
Optimise my CV for a Business Controller role that wants Power BI experience.
Built and own a Power BI dashboard suite of 50+ standard reports across sales, marketing and operations.
I have used Power BI as a consumer of other people\'s dashboards. I have never built 50+ reports. That is fabricated well beyond my actual usage.
Notice three things. One: all three fabricated claims sound credible. Two: none of them would I knowingly have written into my own CV. Three: all three would likely have cleared the ATS. Which is exactly the problem.
Why ChatGPT fabrication is an interview problem, not a CV problem
People often respond "but I review it before I submit". Yes, but:
- You get caught in the match-rate tunnel. ChatGPT produces a version that matches the ad. You read through and it "sounds like you" because you trained ChatGPT on your CV plus the ad. Subtle fabrications pass.
- The interview works differently. When the recruiter asks "tell me about the SAP S/4HANA migration", you have two choices: admit the CV was wrong (trust damage) or bluff (larger trust damage when it inevitably surfaces). There is no third choice.
- A boost from position 5 does not save you from being binned at position 200. Yes, the tailored CV from ChatGPT lifts you to position 5. But you have now committed to things you cannot deliver. Better to be at position 15 with a CV that mirrors your real competence.
How the careerify fact bank solves it
careerify\'s fact bank is not a buzzword. It is a concrete data structure. When you upload your master CV for the first time, we create a set of approved facts: for every claim in the CV (a sentence or a number), there is a source attribution (which role, which month). You can edit, split or approve each fact in a granular editor.
Then, every time you tailor a CV against an ad, our prompts are built so the model can ONLY reference approved facts. It can rephrase, foreground, prioritise. It cannot invent. If the ad demands SAP and your facts do not include SAP, careerify does not put SAP in your tailored CV. Instead it suggests a stretch story based on the closest real experience, clearly marked as direct-match vs stretch.
The result: a CV version optimised for match score but locked to reality. Interviews go smoother. Trust builds.

The pricing reality
ChatGPT is free on the Free tier and 20 dollars/month on Plus. careerify Pro is 229 SEK/month. Three points:
- Free is only okay. GPT-3.5 (or its Free-tier equivalent) handles simple CV tweaking. For Senior Controller roles or any senior position with complex requirements, it hits its ceiling. GPT-4 (Plus tier) is a clear step up.
- Plus is 20 dollars (≈ 210 SEK). careerify Pro is 229 SEK. Price difference is 19 SEK/month. For that you get a fact bank, ATS scoring, tailored CV output, interview questions and a follow-up pipeline. ChatGPT Plus is still just a chatbot.
- Per-application cost. 5 applications per month on careerify Pro ≈ 46 SEK/application. With ChatGPT Plus, the "cost" is the time you spend prompting + reviewing each time. My estimate: 45 minutes per application with ChatGPT, 2 minutes with careerify.
Three situations where ChatGPT is enough
- You already have a polished CV and you are applying to one job. Use ChatGPT for marginal phrasing on the bullet you already know is weak. Fabrication risk is low when you are only rephrasing.
- You want brainstorm help on interview prep. Ask ChatGPT to generate 20 likely interview questions for the role. No fabrication problem there, since the output does not land in your CV.
- You need tone feedback. "Does this bullet sound too stiff?" is a good ChatGPT prompt. You keep control of the content.
Three situations where careerify is clearly better
- You apply to more than two jobs per month.
- Your role has specific hard requirements (ERP names, standards, certifications) where the temptation to "tweak the truth" is high.
- You care that your data is not stored on US servers and not trained on.
Common questions
What is the difference between ChatGPT Plus and Claude/Gemini? For CV writing, the difference is marginal. All three LLMs share the same core problem: no long-term fact binding, no cost for fabrication. Claude is somewhat more cautious about fabricating but not free of it. careerify uses Claude Opus as the model backend but adds the fact-bank layer that blocks the problem.
Do you train on my data? No, never. By default. It is the default because our data-processing agreement with Anthropic (the model provider) explicitly forbids it.
What if I have already written my CV with ChatGPT and want to migrate? Upload it to careerify. The fact bank we extract can flag claims that do not match the rest of the CV context. A good first editing pass.
Can I use ChatGPT to brainstorm interview answers? Absolutely. Prepare answers based on your actual experience (ideally with careerify as the assistant that knows what you did). Then use ChatGPT to refine the phrasing of certain answers for flow.
Try the careerify fact-bank flow. Upload your CV at the home page, we extract facts with source attribution. You can edit them before the first application is generated.
